A study by The Stock Dork evaluated 40 countries to identify the top destinations for a digital detox in 2024. Indonesia was revealed as the best destination for a digital detox, with the lowest percentage of internet penetration and internet speed, and Spain offered the highest number of digital detox resorts and wellness retreats, providing opportunities for relaxation.
Several key criteria, such as internet penetration, internet speed, population density, safety, number of national parks, digital detox resorts, wellness retreats, and walkability were taken into account. These factors were turned into a composite score, ranking the top destinations for a digital detox.
Leading the list, Indonesia is the top destination for a digital detox with a composite score of 70.65. It stands out not only with its safety, national parks, digital detox resorts, and wellness retreats, but also with the lowest internet speed and penetration in the country, making it an ideal getaway.
Ranking second with a composite score of 66.69, Spain offers the highest number of digital detox resorts and wellness retreats, providing opportunities for relaxation. In contrast, Spain's internet speed is among the highest. Portugal takes the third spot with a composite score of 59.65. The country combines high safety scores, walkability and a significant number of wellness retreats. Additionally, Portugal offers the highest safety rate on the list.
Costa Rica ranks fourth with a composite score of 52.52. Having many national parks, the country's focus on wellness is reflected also in over 30 digital detox resorts and 163 wellness retreats. With one of the lowest internet speeds, Costa Rica makes it easier to stay disconnected and fully immerse in the natural beauty.

Thailand is fifth on the list with a composite score of 47.69. Having the highest number of national parks, Thailand shows its commitment to providing exceptional digital detox escapes. With a composite score of 45.71, Italy ranks sixth. The country offers a peaceful environment for digital detox with 25 national parks, 19 digital detox resorts and 175 wellness retreats.
Greece holds the seventh spot with a composite score of 44.48. The country balances natural beauty and wellness with its national parks, digital detox resorts and wellness retreats. Its moderate internet penetration and safety make it an attractive location to disconnect. Turkey is eighth, with a composite score of 44.46. The country’s 43 national parks, 24 digital detox resorts and 23 wellness retreats provide ample opportunities for relaxation.
Vietnam ranks ninth on the list of the best destinations for a digital detox, with a composite score of 40.53. Vietnam has the lowest number of cars per 1,000 people despite having the highest population density among the top ten.
Egypt completes the top ten with a composite score of 37.61. The country’s low internet speed of 61.22 Mbps and a safety score of 52.8 add to its appeal, along with national parks, digital detox resorts and wellness retreats.
